Happy Friday!

I’m home for the weekend! It’s so nice to have a bit of countryside air in my lungs after a couple of months back in London. The ground is completely snow capped and I’m currently enjoying coffee, a book and M.I.A on itunes. Perfection.

Everyone else facing a good weekend?

V&A drawings
Drawings from the V&A.On my second visit I took print outs of the my photos so that I could use them to draw on top of. The drawings are “blind” so I wasn’t looking at the paper whilst drawing the sculptures. I love how the sculptures are themselves an impression of the original face, whilst my drawings of that impression becomes a further step away from the original source. It’s like a Chinese whispers effect in the drawing where each stage sees the image degrade more and more.
Another drawing from the V&A, only slightly tweaked… well fine it’s been made red but whatever.
My friend, Lizzy (a fabulous illustrator- proof is right here) has included our recent venture to a nice little coffee shop in central London last weekend in her ongoing visual diary. What a treat! And a great coffee it was, too!

The V&A, London

I have been doing a lot of drawing this week for my Drawing Elective work at the RCA. The elective aims to reiterate the values of drawing for anyone creative and how the act of drawing can be utilised as a tool to help us create, stimulate ideas and negotiate our concepts visually. It’s a great chance to invest in really lovely, honest drawing exercises and then attempt to angle them back towards our disciplines. In fairness, the projects they’re setting feel very akin to the kind of projects I was met with at foundation level- but seeing as I have nothing but wonderful memories of my time on foundation I’m more than happy to revert back to the valuable techniques I learnt there. This week has been a week of drawing faces- face after face after face. I have made a couple of trips to the V&A to study the sculptures and busts on display there- where the faces are absolutely aching with expression PLUS the models are really good at NOT MOVING. Bonus! I’ll upload some of my drawn work soon, but for now will share some of the photos I took from the gallery.
I’m tidying up my photo archives on my harddrive and came across this photo series from Portobello beach, Edinburgh 2010. Good memories.

Happy Christmas!

I’m currently playing with a small project putting together a fashion campaign and have been playing around with some bits of colour today. Using the beautiful photos from COS’ current magazine as a canvas for the sake of development.
