Last night was as blurry as these lights. We finally got our exhibition up, hence the celebrations that followed…

The Office of Optimism
David Hockney is giving a lecture at college this monday! I just found out he will accompany my lecture class in introducing his film and then being present in a Q&A! FUCK ME! I am beyond overwhelmed. What an icon! I bought this tote bag after his exhibition yesterday. Would it be too much to swan in the lecture room swinging it about with pride? Yeah- thought so!
Drawings from the V&A.On my second visit I took print outs of the my photos so that I could use them to draw on top of. The drawings are “blind” so I wasn’t looking at the paper whilst drawing the sculptures. I love how the sculptures are themselves an impression of the original face, whilst my drawings of that impression becomes a further step away from the original source. It’s like a Chinese whispers effect in the drawing where each stage sees the image degrade more and more.
My favourite book from the RCA library- no competition. It is fantastic. You should see some of the photos inside- it’s unbelievable!
The Royal College of Art is currently hosting its 2011 RCA Secret Exhibition, where thousands of artists and Designers (including Tracey Emin, Sir Paul Smith, Nick Parks) contribute poastcard sized original artworks. Each art piece remains anonymous until after their sale, and all work is sold for the cost of £45. Buyers don’t know whose work they are paying for so imagine the surprise if you spent a mere £45 on an original piece of art from some of the industry’s most acclaimed and respected figures! Amazing! The show is on over the next few days at South Kensington, London and well worth seeing if anyone gets the chance. This is one of my favourites of the exhibition, though sadly I don’t know who did it until the Secret is uncovered!
Putting together the last touches to my Introduction Presentation at RCA and including an image of my London bookshelf in it. I don’t go anywhere without at least one of my Nigel Slater cookbooks- essentials in life. Fact.
What a week! First week in London and its non-stop. I am tired, excited and still very scared. I was nearly pick-pocketed in starbucks and got drunk on a boat (on the Thames where this photo was taken). Met lots of new people but still so many more to meet from my new classmates. Hopefully week two will see it all calm a little bit so I can enjoy the readjustment and actually start settling in. So far so good, though!
